Whether you’re hopping aboard the iconic Canadian train or exploring the breathtaking beauty of Eastern Canada, there is no better way to discover Canada than via rail. And now, thanks to a partnership between VIA Rail and the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC), newcomers to Canada can do so at an even more affordable rate.

Through an exclusive collaboration with ICC, VIA Rail learn about it here offers permanent residents of Canada and newcomers to the country access to special deals on train vacations that aren’t available to the general public. The program – which is available throughout the year – provides new citizens with 50 per cent off the lowest available fare, one way or round trip, for them and up to four of their children.

The Institute for Canadian Citizenship explains that newcomers to Canada are often looking to explore their new home, and what better way than by train? Not only is it a great way to get acquainted with this incredible country, but it also helps build community and gives people the opportunity to experience the culture of their new home. VIA Rail is thrilled to be able to offer this special deal as an important way to welcome newcomers to the country, and to help them feel right at home.

VIA Rail offers two incredible long-distance routes. Hop on the world-renowned Canadian for a train journey from Toronto to Vancouver, or opt for a shorter journey on The Ocean route that takes you from Montreal to Halifax. Each trip allows you to see the very best of Canada, from the lakes of Ontario and the endless prairie provinces to the dramatic Rocky Mountains.

While on board, you can enjoy the scenery from your window or head to a lounge car for some cocktails and conversation. Staff members will also give short talks in the Dome Car on the area you’re travelling through, and live entertainment is brought onboard at certain times of the day.

Taking the train is an incredible and stress-free way to travel in Canada, and with so many different destinations to choose from it’s easy to find a tour that suits you. Our Canadian Insiders can personalize each train vacation, helping you find the perfect combination of experiences to suit your individual interests and preferences.
